Générateur de VIN
Guide
Générateur de VIN
Generate valid Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) for testing, development, and educational purposes. Each generated VIN follows the ISO 3779 standard with a correctly calculated check digit, realistic manufacturer codes, and proper formatting — making them suitable for software testing, database seeding, and learning how VINs work.
Comment utiliser
Set the number of VINs to generate (1–50), optionally select a region (North America, Europe, or Asia) and a model year (2000–2026). Click Générer to create valid VINs. Each VIN is a properly structured 17-character identifier with a valid check digit. Copy all results to your clipboard or download them as a text file.
Caractéristiques
- Valid Check Digits – Every VIN includes a correctly calculated position-9 check digit using the standard weighted algorithm
- Real Manufacturer Codes – Uses authentic WMI codes from manufacturers like Toyota, BMW, Ford, Tesla, and more
- Region Selection – Generate VINs specific to North America, Europe, or Asia, or use random regions
- Model Year Control – Choose a specific model year (2000–2026) or generate random years
- Génération en vrac – Create up to 50 VINs at once for batch testing
- Copy & Download – One-click copy to clipboard or download as a text file
- Côté client uniquement – All generation happens in your browser with no data sent to any server
FAQ
-
What is the structure of a Vehicle Identification Number?
A VIN is a 17-character code divided into three sections: the World Manufacturer Identifier (positions 1-3) identifies the country and manufacturer, the Vehicle Descriptor Section (positions 4-8) encodes vehicle attributes like engine type and body style, and the Vehicle Identifier Section (positions 10-17) includes the model year, assembly plant, and a unique serial number. Position 9 is a check digit calculated from all other positions.
-
How does the VIN check digit algorithm work?
Each character in a VIN is assigned a numeric value (A=1, B=2, etc., with some letters skipped). Each of the 17 positions has a specific weight factor. The algorithm multiplies each character value by its position weight, sums all products, then divides by 11. The remainder becomes the check digit — or X if the remainder is 10. This system catches single-character errors and most transposition errors.
-
Why are the letters I, O, and Q excluded from VINs?
These three letters are excluded from VINs because they can be easily confused with the numbers 1, 0, and 2 respectively. Since VINs are frequently read visually from stamped metal plates and handwritten documents, eliminating these ambiguous characters reduces transcription errors and fraud.
