WHOIS Domain Lookup

使い方

What is the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?

WHOIS is the legacy protocol (port 43) for querying domain registration data, returning unstructured plain text. RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is its modern replacement, standardized by the IETF. RDAP returns structured JSON over HTTPS, supports authentication, internationalized data, and has better access control. ICANN requires all registries and registrars to support RDAP.
Why do some WHOIS records show redacted registrant information?

Since the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) took effect in 2018, most registrars redact personal registrant information from public WHOIS and RDAP records. Contact details like name, email, phone, and address are typically replaced with 'REDACTED FOR PRIVACY' unless the registrant has opted in to public display.
What do domain status codes like clientTransferProhibited mean?

How accurate are domain expiry dates in WHOIS records?

Expiry dates in WHOIS and RDAP records are generally accurate and updated by registries in near real-time. However, many domains have auto-renewal enabled, so an approaching expiry date does not necessarily mean the domain will become available. After expiry, domains typically enter a redemption grace period before being released.
