Preguntas frecuentes

  1. What is a BIN or IIN number?

A BIN (Bank Identification Number) or IIN (Issuer Identification Number) is the first 6 to 8 digits of a payment card number. These digits identify the card network (Visa, Mastercard, etc.), the issuing bank or financial institution, and the card type. The industry has been transitioning from 6-digit to 8-digit BINs since 2022 to accommodate more issuers. The remaining digits of the card number identify the individual account and include a check digit.

  2. Is it safe to enter card digits in this tool?

Yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser — no card data is sent to any server. Only the first 6-8 digits (the BIN/IIN) are needed for the lookup, and these digits alone cannot identify any individual account or be used for transactions. The BIN is public information assigned to banks by card networks. Even if you enter a full card number for Luhn validation, it is processed locally in JavaScript and never transmitted.

  3. What is Luhn validation?

The Luhn algorithm (also called the mod-10 algorithm) is a checksum formula used to validate identification numbers, including credit card numbers. It works by doubling every second digit from right to left, subtracting 9 from results over 9, and summing all digits. If the total is divisible by 10, the number passes. This validates the number format — it catches accidental typos and random numbers but does not verify that the card account actually exists or has funds.
