Force Unit Converter

Convert Force Units Instantly

Engineers, physics students, and machinists work with force in a baffling mix of units: newtons in SI papers, pound-force in US torque specs, kilogram-force in old European drawings, and dynes in CGS textbooks. The Force Unit Converter handles them all in one screen — change any value and every other unit updates immediately, using the precise SI-derived constants you would otherwise have to look up.

如何使用

  1. Type a number into any unit field — newton, kilonewton, pound-force, kilogram-force, dyne, poundal, ton-force, or any other.
  2. Watch every other field update simultaneously with the converted value.
  3. Adjust the decimal precision selector if you need more or fewer digits, or to switch on scientific notation for very large and very small results.
  4. Click the copy icon next to any unit to grab that single value, or use Copy All to copy every unit at once.

特征

  • All-to-all live conversion – Edit any field, every other unit updates in the same moment.
  • Twelve units across three families – SI (N, kN, MN, dyne), metric gravitational (kgf/kp, gf, metric tonne-force), and imperial/US (lbf, ozf, poundal, short ton-force, long ton-force).
  • Adjustable decimal precision – Choose from 0 to 10 decimals; values outside the practical range automatically switch to scientific notation.
  • Reference table – Common force values from a door push to Saturn V thrust, expressed in both newtons and pound-force.
  • ——点击复制按钮,粘贴到你的 CSS 中。两秒钟搞定。 – Copy any single unit or all twelve at once, formatted with their unit labels.

常问问题

  1. What is the difference between mass and force?

Mass measures how much matter an object contains and is expressed in kilograms or pounds. Force is what acts on that mass to accelerate it, and is expressed in newtons or pound-force. A 1 kg object has a constant mass everywhere in the universe, but its weight (a force) is about 9.81 N on Earth, 1.62 N on the Moon, and zero in deep space. Mixing the two is the most common source of error in engineering calculations.

  2. Why is pound-force different from pound-mass?

In US customary units, the pound (lb) is officially a mass, but in everyday and engineering use it is also used as a force. To avoid ambiguity, engineers write lbf for pound-force, defined as the force gravity exerts on one pound-mass at standard gravity (9.80665 m/s²). One lbf equals 4.4482216 N exactly. Confusing lb with lbf in a torque or stress calculation introduces a factor of g and ruins the result.

  3. What is a kilogram-force and why is it still used?

A kilogram-force (kgf), also called a kilopond (kp), is the force of standard gravity on one kilogram of mass: 9.80665 N exactly. It is technically deprecated by SI but persists in older European mechanical drawings, tire pressure ratings, and bicycle parts spec sheets, because it lets engineers reason about weight directly in mass units.

  4. What is a dyne and where is it used?

A dyne is the CGS unit of force: the force needed to accelerate one gram by one centimeter per second squared. It equals 0.00001 N. You will see it in physics textbooks, molecular and surface tension measurements (often dyne per centimeter), and older scientific literature. For practical engineering, newtons are far easier to work with.

  5. What is a poundal?

A poundal (pdl) is the force needed to accelerate one pound-mass by one foot per second squared, approximately 0.13825 N. It belongs to the absolute foot-pound-second system and is rarely used today, but appears in older British physics texts. Unlike pound-force, it does not depend on gravity, which makes it more like a true SI-style unit.

  6. What is the difference between short, long, and metric ton-force?

All three are the weight of one ton, but the ton differs by region. A short ton (US) is 2000 lb, giving a short ton-force of about 8896 N. A long ton (UK) is 2240 lb, giving about 9964 N. A metric tonne is 1000 kg, giving a metric ton-force of 9806.65 N exactly. Always check which ton a specification refers to — confusing them produces errors of 10 % or more.
