What is a color palette in design?
A color palette is a curated set of colors chosen to work harmoniously together in a design project. Palettes typically include primary, secondary, and accent colors along with neutrals. Good palettes consider color theory principles like complementary, analogous, and triadic relationships. Professional designers often extract palettes from photographs or nature to ensure the colors feel organic and cohesive.

How does color quantization work?
Color quantization reduces the number of distinct colors in an image to a smaller set of representative colors. Algorithms like median cut, k-means clustering, and octree quantization group similar pixels together and select the most dominant or representative color from each group. This is the same technique used in GIF compression and is the foundation of automatic palette extraction from images.

What is the difference between RGB, HSL, and HEX color formats?
RGB defines colors by mixing red, green, and blue light values (0-255 each). HEX is simply RGB written in hexadecimal notation — #FF0000 equals rgb(255,0,0). HSL describes colors by hue (0-360° on the color wheel), saturation (intensity), and lightness (brightness), which maps more intuitively to how humans think about color. Each format represents the same colors but is useful in different contexts.
