HSV to RGB Converter

HSV to RGB Converter

Convert between HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value) and RGB color spaces instantly with live visual preview. Adjust hue, saturation, and value using intuitive sliders and see the corresponding RGB and HEX values update in real time.

How to Use

Adjust the HSV sliders — Hue (0-360°), Saturation (0-100%), and Value (0-100%) — to set your color. The tool instantly calculates and displays the RGB values (0-255) and HEX code with a live color preview. Switch to RGB-to-HSV mode to input RGB values instead. Use the copy buttons to grab any output format with one click.

Features

  • Bidirectional Conversion – Convert HSV to RGB or RGB to HSV with live synchronization
  • Interactive Sliders – Hue wheel (0-360°), saturation and value sliders with real-time updates
  • Multiple Output Formats – RGB (0-255), HEX code, and HSV values all displayed simultaneously
  • Live Color Preview – Visual swatch updates instantly as you adjust values
  • One-Click Copy – Copy HSV, RGB, or HEX values to clipboard
  • Grayscale Handling – Correctly handles S=0 edge case for achromatic colors
  • Client-Side Processing – All calculations run in your browser with zero server dependency

FAQ

What is the HSV color model?

HSV stands for Hue, Saturation, and Value. Hue represents the color angle on a 360° wheel (0°=red, 120°=green, 240°=blue). Saturation controls color intensity from 0% (gray) to 100% (pure color). Value controls brightness from 0% (black) to 100% (full brightness). HSV is often preferred by designers because it maps more intuitively to how humans perceive and describe color than RGB does.

How does HSV to RGB conversion work?

The conversion uses the HSV color cylinder model. The hue determines which 60° sector of the color wheel the color falls in, creating six cases. Within each sector, chroma (S×V) and intermediate values are calculated, then mapped to RGB channels. When saturation is zero, the result is a grayscale value where R=G=B=V×255. The math involves conditional logic based on the hue sector, which is why manual calculation is error-prone.

What is the difference between HSV and HSL?

Both HSV and HSL describe color using hue and saturation, but they differ in the third component. HSV uses Value (brightness of the color), while HSL uses Lightness (position between black and white). In HSV, S=100% V=100% gives a pure vivid color. In HSL, S=100% L=50% gives a pure vivid color. HSV is more common in color pickers and graphic design software, while HSL is more common in CSS and web development.

Why do designers prefer HSV over RGB?

RGB defines colors by mixing light intensities, which is how screens work but not how humans think about color. Asking someone to create 'a slightly darker, less saturated blue' is intuitive in HSV — just reduce V and S. In RGB, achieving the same result requires adjusting all three channels by different amounts. HSV separates the three perceptual dimensions of color (hue, purity, brightness) making it natural for color selection and manipulation tasks.
