Image to ASCII Art Converter
Guide
Image to ASCII Art Converter
Turn any photo, screenshot or logo into ASCII art directly in your browser. Upload an image and the converter samples each region of pixels, maps the brightness to a character of matching density and assembles the result into monospaced text you can paste anywhere — chat windows, code comments, terminals, README files, or printable art. Everything runs locally on your device, so the image never leaves your computer.
How to Use
- Drop an image into the uploader or click Browse to pick a JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP or BMP up to 10 MB.
- Adjust the Width slider to choose how many characters wide the result should be (40–200).
- Pick a Character Set: Classic for a balanced look, Detailed for fine gradients, Blocks for solid shading, Simple for low-density text, Binary for 0/1 output, or Custom to supply your own ramp from darkest to lightest character.
- Toggle Invert Brightness if you want light-on-dark instead of dark-on-light (handy for terminal backgrounds).
- Enable Colour ASCII to keep each character’s original pixel colour, or leave it off for clean monochrome output.
- Click Convert (or just upload — conversion runs automatically). Then copy the text, download it as
.txt, or grab a high-resolution.pngrendering.
Features
- Adjustable resolution – Width slider lets you fine-tune detail vs file size, from 40 columns for a chat-friendly icon up to 200 columns for poster-style art.
- Six character ramps – Choose from preset gradients (Classic, Detailed, Blocks, Simple, Binary) or define your own custom sequence from dark to light.
- Invert toggle – Swap dark and light mapping with one click so the output looks correct on either a black or white background.
- Full-colour mode – Render every character in its original pixel colour for a striking, glitch-art aesthetic.
- Three export formats – Copy to clipboard, download as a plain-text
.txtfile, or render the art to a PNG image for sharing on social media. - 100% client-side – All conversion happens in your browser using the Canvas API; your image is never uploaded to a server.
- Smart aspect handling – Compensates for the taller-than-wide shape of monospace characters so circles look like circles and faces stay recognisable.
