Guides

Plenty of tools export data as CSV — plain text, easy to generate — but a colleague or a downstream process often wants a real Excel workbook instead. This converter builds a proper .xlsx file from CSV data with no signup, no install, and no upload to a server: the workbook is built entirely in your browser.

Paste CSV text or drop a .csv file and it's parsed on the spot. Choose the delimiter your data actually uses, bold the header row, and let column widths auto-size to fit their content — then download a workbook that opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc.

How to use it

  1. Paste CSV text into the box, or drop/browse to a .csv file.
  2. Pick the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe) that matches your data.
  3. Optionally rename the sheet, toggle a bold header row, and toggle auto-sized columns.
  4. Press Download .xlsx to build and save the workbook.

Every option re-parses instantly from the same input, so you can try a few combinations before downloading.

Does it handle quoted fields and embedded commas?

Yes. The parser follows RFC 4180 quoting rules — a quoted field can contain the delimiter, a literal double quote (written as ""), or even an embedded line break, and it's read back correctly rather than split apart.

What if my CSV has more columns in some rows than others?

Every row is padded to the width of the widest row in the sheet, so a short row (like a totals row under a wider header) still lines up under the right columns instead of shifting left.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The CSV is parsed and the workbook is built entirely in your browser's memory — nothing is sent to a server, so this is safe to use with sensitive data.

Need to go the other way — Excel back to CSV? Use the Excel/XLSX to CSV Converter, which lets you pick the worksheet and pick the same delimiter/line-ending options.
