The Paper Size Converter looks up a standard paper size — any ISO 216 A-series sheet from A0 down to A10, or the common US sizes Letter, Legal, and Tabloid — and shows its dimensions in every unit designers, printers, and developers actually need: millimeters, centimeters, inches, points, and pixels at a DPI you choose.

Paper sizes get referenced in wildly different units depending on the context. A print shop thinks in millimeters, a US office thinks in inches, a typesetting or PDF workflow thinks in points, and a web or app designer laying out a printable template thinks in pixels at 72, 96, 150, or 300 DPI. Rather than looking up conversion factors by hand, pick a size and get every unit at once.

How to use it

  1. Choose a Paper Size from the list — the ISO 216 A-series (A0-A10) and the US Letter, Legal, and Tabloid sizes.
  2. Pick Portrait or Landscape to control which dimension is reported as width versus height.
  3. Set the DPI (72, 96, 150, or 300) used to compute the pixel dimensions — 96 DPI is the common web-design default, 300 DPI is typical for print-quality raster output.

The results table updates automatically with the width and height in millimeters, centimeters, inches, points, and pixels. Copy the table or download it as CSV.

Rounding

Millimeters are shown to 1 decimal place, centimeters and inches to 2 decimal places, points to 1 decimal place, and pixel dimensions are rounded to the nearest whole pixel. ISO A-series millimeter dimensions are the exact published ISO 216 values; every other unit is derived from them (1 inch = 25.4 mm exactly, 1 point = 1/72 inch).

Why is A4 210 x 297 mm but not exactly 8.27 x 11.69 inches?

210 mm and 297 mm are themselves rounded to the nearest millimeter under ISO 216 — the "true" A4 dimensions come from a geometric series (each size is the previous one's long edge halved, starting from a 1 m² sheet with a 1:root-2 aspect ratio) that doesn't land on a clean inch value. Converting the rounded 210 x 297 mm to inches gives 8.27 x 11.69 in — close enough for any layout, but not a perfectly clean fraction.

What DPI should I use for the pixel dimensions?

96 DPI for on-screen web layouts (the CSS pixel standard), 72 DPI for legacy screen/PDF work, 150 DPI for draft print previews, and 300 DPI for print-ready raster images.

How do points relate to inches and pixels?

A point is a fixed fraction of an inch: 1 point = 1/72 inch, a convention from typesetting that PDF and desktop publishing software still use. At exactly 72 DPI, a point and a pixel are numerically identical — which is why A4 at 72 DPI shows the same numbers in both the points and pixels rows.

Does this tool support B-series or envelope sizes?

Not currently — it focuses on the ISO 216 A-series and the three most common US sizes (Letter, Legal, Tabloid). Envelope, photo print, business card, and JIS B sizes are out of scope for now.
