Tank Fill Drain Time Calculator
Calculate how long it takes to fill or drain a tank from its capacity, current level, inflow and outflow rates — in liters, m³ or gallons.
Input
How full the tank is right now.
Leave empty to use full when filling or empty when draining.
Drain or consumption rate running at the same time.

Find out how long a tank takes to fill or empty. Enter the tank capacity, how full it is now, the inflow rate and (optionally) a simultaneous outflow rate. The calculator works out the net flow and the time to reach full, empty, or any target level you choose.
How it works
Net flow = inflow − outflow. If the net flow is positive the tank fills; if negative it drains. Time = volume to change ÷ net flow. All units (liters, m³, US/imperial gallons; per minute or per hour) are converted to liters per minute internally.
Tips
- Set a target level to answer questions like "when will it reach 80%?".
- If inflow equals outflow the level never changes; if the target lies in the opposite direction of the net flow, the result says it is never reached.
- Real flow rates drop as a tank empties (head pressure) or as a pump works against a rising level, so treat results as estimates for constant-rate flow.
