What does this tool do?
Converts a CGPA (cumulative grade point average) into a percentage — but unlike a single fixed multiplier, it covers the several different formulas Indian universities and boards actually use for the same 10-point scale, since they don't agree with each other:
- CBSE / Standard — CGPA × 9.5, the formula CBSE itself publishes.
- Simple — CGPA × 10, a plain "out of 10" reading some institutions use instead.
- VTU — (CGPA − 0.75) × 10.
- Mumbai University — 7.1 × CGPA + 11.
- GTU — (CGPA − 0.5) × 10.
- 5-point and 4-point scales — (CGPA ÷ scale) × 100.
- Custom multiplier — for any other institution's own formula.

FAQ
Why do different formulas give different percentages for the same CGPA?
There's no single official CGPA-to-percentage conversion — each board or university publishes its own, and some (VTU, GTU) subtract an offset before multiplying rather than using a flat multiplier. A CGPA of 8.0 reads as 76% under CBSE's formula but only 72.5% under VTU's — always check which formula your specific institution uses before reporting a percentage on a form or application.
What do Distinction / First Class / Second Class mean here?
They're the common Indian university percentage bands (75%+ Distinction, 60–74.99% First Class, 50–59.99% Second Class, 40–49.99% Third Class, below 40% Fail) applied to whichever formula you selected. Some institutions use slightly different cutoffs — check yours if it matters for an official record.
My university's formula isn't listed — what do I do?
