Guides
Convert an amount between any two of 158 world currencies — plus gold, silver, platinum, palladium and IMF Special Drawing Rights — using exchange rates that update daily. Pick an amount, a "from" currency and a "to" currency, and the converted total, the exchange rate in both directions, and the date the rates were last updated all show up immediately.
How to use it
- Enter the amount you want to convert.
- Pick the From currency and the To currency from the searchable dropdowns — type a currency code (e.g.
JPY) or a country/currency name to filter the list. - Click the swap icon between the two dropdowns to instantly reverse the conversion direction.
- Read the result, the "1 X = Y" rate line, and the "Rates as of" date underneath it.
Where the rates come from
Rates are fetched directly from your browser — nothing is proxied through our servers — from a free, key-free exchange-rate API that updates once a day. If the primary source doesn't respond, a second, independently-hosted mirror of the same dataset is used automatically, so a single provider outage doesn't break the tool.
How often do the rates update?
Once a day. The "Rates as of" date under the result shows exactly which day's rates you're seeing — useful context if you're checking a rate around a market-moving event, since it won't reflect intraday moves.
Can I convert to gold or silver?
Yes — search for XAU (gold), XAG (silver), XPT (platinum) or XPD (palladium) in either dropdown. They're priced per troy ounce, the standard unit for precious metals.
Is this good enough for a live trade or invoice?
Treat it as a reference rate, not a bank or broker's live quote — actual transactions add a spread on top of the market rate. For sending money or invoicing, check the exact rate your bank, card network or payment provider will apply.
What if I need a different kind of conversion?
For non-currency units — length, weight, temperature and more — see the Unit Converter. If you're validating a business's VAT number rather than converting money, try the VAT Number Validator.
