Guides
The Unit Converter is a single tool for every everyday measurement conversion: length, mass/weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, data storage, and pressure. Pick a category, choose the "from" and "to" units, and the result updates instantly — no page reload, no navigating between separate converters.
How to use it
- Pick a Category — Length, Mass / Weight, Temperature, Volume, Area, Speed, Data Storage, or Pressure.
- Choose the unit your amount is currently in (Convert from) and the unit you want (Convert to).
- Type the Amount.
- Turn on Show all units to see the same amount converted to every unit in that category at once, instead of a single result.
- Optionally adjust Decimal precision (0 to 10 places).
Switching categories swaps the unit lists instantly, so converting a recipe's volume and then checking the oven's temperature in Fahrenheit takes one click, not two different tools. Use the copy button to grab the result, or the download button (in "Show all units" mode) to save every conversion as CSV.
Why are there separate Length Converter, Weight Converter, etc. tools too?
This tool is the fast, one-stop way to convert across categories. Each category also has its own dedicated page — Length Converter, Weight Converter, Temperature Converter, Volume Converter, Area Converter, Speed Converter, Data Storage Converter, and Pressure Converter — with the full unit list shown by default and shareable ?ioFromUnit=&ioToUnit= deep links for a specific pair. Use those when you only ever convert one category and want the every-unit view up front; use this tool when you jump between categories.
Why does temperature convert differently from the other categories?
Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin aren't just different scales of the same "zero" — Fahrenheit has both a different step size AND a different zero point than Celsius. Converting temperature correctly requires an offset (°F = °C × 9/5 + 32), not just a multiplication, unlike length or weight where multiplying by a fixed factor is enough. This tool applies the correct affine formula for every temperature scale, including less common ones like Rankine, Delisle, Newton, Réaumur, and Rømer.
What's the difference between GB and GiB in the Data Storage category?
GB (gigabyte) is the SI decimal unit: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. GiB (gibibyte) is the IEC binary unit: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024³). Operating systems and RAM specs usually mean GiB when they show "GB" — that's why a "1 TB" drive shows up as roughly 931 GiB in your file manager.
