A vampire's name has to carry centuries. It should sound like it was fashionable in some candlelit era and never quite went out of style — old money, old blood, faintly dangerous. Gary has never once risen from a crypt. Lucrezia Vane has done it more than once. This generator leans into that gothic register: names that are seductive, immortal-sounding, and touched by the dark, paired with a line on the character behind them.
How to use it
Length sets the register. Short, sharp names (Vane, Cael, Nyx) read as predators — the kind that don't explain themselves. Longer, layered names (Seraphina Duskmourne, Alucard von Ravenscroft) read as aristocratic elders with a bloodline and a crumbling estate to match.
Complexity decides how ornate the spelling gets. Simple keeps names pronounceable and modern-gothic; elaborate hands you accents, archaic spellings and the sort of surname that belongs on a wrought-iron gate.
Use extra context to pin down the era and archetype you're writing:

What makes a good vampire name?
Atmosphere over accuracy. A vampire name works when it hints at age and allure before you've read a word of backstory — soft, drawn-out sounds for the seductive ones, harder consonants for the predatory ones, and a surname that implies lineage. The generator biases toward that gothic mood rather than any single national tradition, so add a culture in the context box if you want one.
Can I use a generated vampire name in my novel or game?
Generally yes — short invented names aren't protected by copyright. Two cautions worth the ten seconds: the model has read a great deal of vampire fiction, so it can occasionally hand you something close to a famous character (search before you commit), and names tied to a specific franchise carry trademark risk even when copyright doesn't.
Can it match a specific setting, like World of Darkness or a period drama?
Yes — say so in the context box. Ask for a clan-flavoured Vampire: The Masquerade name, a Regency-era English one, or an Eastern European folk vampire, and the sound and structure shift to fit. The more specific the setting you name, the closer the results land.
Why do I sometimes get fewer names than I asked for?
Vampire names cluster around the same evocative roots (Vane, Dusk-, -mourne), so large batches produce near-duplicates. Those are filtered out before you see them, and only the names you actually receive count against your credits.
