Guides
The Percent Off Calculator works out how much you'll pay — and how much you'll save — when an item is discounted by a percentage. Enter the original price and the percent off, and it instantly shows the sale price, your savings, and the share of the price you still pay.
It's the fastest way to answer the sale-tag question everyone runs into: "25% off $100 — what's the final price?" No mental math, no rounding mistakes.
How to use it
- Enter the Original Price — the price before any discount.
- Enter the Discount % — the percentage off, anywhere from 0 to 100.
- Read the results table:
- Sale Price — what you actually pay after the discount.
- You Save — the dollar amount taken off.
- Original Price — echoed back for reference.
- Discount % — the percentage off you entered.
- You Pay % — the remaining share of the original price (100% minus the discount).
Results update as you type, and you can copy or download the table for a receipt or spreadsheet.
The formula
The math is simple:
- Amount saved = original price × (discount ÷ 100)
- Sale price = original price − amount saved
For example, 25% off $100 saves $25, leaving a $75 sale price. A 15% discount on $49.99 saves $7.50, for a $42.49 sale price.
What does "You Pay %" mean?
It's the percentage of the original price you're still paying — simply 100% minus the discount. A 30% discount means you pay 70%. It's a quick sanity check that the numbers line up.
Can the discount be more than 100%?
No. A discount above 100% would mean a negative price, so the calculator accepts values from 0% to 100%. For 100% off, the sale price is $0.
Is this the same as a sales-tax or markup calculator?
No. This tool only subtracts a percentage discount. If you need profit margin, markup, reverse-discount (finding the original price from a sale price), or stacked/compounded discounts, use the Discount & Markup Calculator instead.
