Guides

Pick one or more of the 30 Major League Baseball teams completely at random. Every result comes with a short note on where the team's name actually comes from — from the Arizona Diamondbacks' venomous namesake to the storied franchises of the American and National Leagues.

How to use it

  1. Choose how many teams you want (1 up to all 30).
  2. Optionally change the text format — capitalized, lowercase or UPPERCASE.
  3. Hit Pick teams. Each run produces a fresh random selection with no duplicates.

Use the copy button on the results to paste your picks anywhere.

What is this for?

  • Fantasy baseball drafts — assign teams to friends without arguments about who gets the Yankees.
  • Pick'em and prediction games — need a neutral way to allocate teams? Randomness settles it.
  • Trivia and learning — the name-origin column doubles as trivia material. Do you know why the Dodgers are called the Dodgers?
  • Simulations and test data — grab a realistic MLB team name for mockups or sample datasets.

Are all 30 MLB teams included?

Yes — the full current Major League Baseball lineup across both the American League and National League, each paired with a one-line explanation of its name's origin.

Can I get the same team twice?

No. A single run never repeats a team, so asking for 30 teams gives you the whole league in random order — which is also a handy way to generate a random league-wide ordering.

Does it work offline / is my data private?

The generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you do here is uploaded anywhere — the team list ships with the page and the random picks happen on your device.
