Guides

The Weight Converter turns a single mass measurement into its equivalent across 17 units at once. Enter one value, choose the unit it is expressed in, and the tool instantly builds a table showing the same weight in kilograms, grams, pounds, ounces, stone, tonnes, and more.

Weight conversions trip people up constantly because the metric system (grams, kilograms, tonnes) and the imperial/US system (ounces, pounds, stone, tons) aren't just different scales — the US "short ton" (2,000 lb) and UK "long ton" (2,240 lb) aren't even the same as each other, let alone the metric tonne (1,000 kg). This tool converts between all of them at once so nothing gets lost in translation.

How to use it

  1. Type the amount you want to convert into the Amount box.
  2. Pick the unit that amount is in from the Unit list.
  3. Optionally set the Decimal precision (0 to 10 places) for how the results are rounded.

The results table updates automatically. Very large or very small results (atomic mass units, grains) are shown in scientific notation so nothing is lost to rounding. Use the copy and download buttons to grab every conversion as CSV.

How many pounds are in a kilogram?

One kilogram equals approximately 2.2046 pounds. This tool computes that conversion (and the reverse) to as many decimal places as you need.

What is the difference between a stone and a pound?

A stone is a traditional British unit equal to 14 pounds (about 6.35 kg), still used in the UK and Ireland for body weight. The pound is the more common unit elsewhere in the imperial/US system.

Why are there two kinds of "ton"?

The US short ton is 2,000 pounds (about 907 kg), while the UK long ton is 2,240 pounds (about 1,016 kg). The metric tonne — sometimes also called a "metric ton" — is 1,000 kg exactly and is different from both. Always check which one a source means before converting.

What is a carat used for?

The carat (200 mg) measures the weight of gemstones and pearls. It's unrelated to "karat," which measures gold purity, not mass.
