Guides
Paste any Vimeo link and this tool pulls out that video's thumbnail — the poster frame Vimeo shows before you press play — in every size it's available in. Each one previews inline, so you can see what you're getting before you save it.
How do I use it?
- Paste the video's URL into the box. It's looked up as soon as you stop typing.
- Check the title, uploader and date so you know you've got the right video.
- Press Download on the size you want, or Copy URL to link straight to the image.
Which links work?
All the common Vimeo URL shapes, plus a bare video ID:
https://vimeo.com/76979871https://player.vimeo.com/video/76979871(the embed URL)https://vimeo.com/channels/staffpicks/76979871https://vimeo.com/groups/motion/videos/76979871https://vimeo.com/ondemand/…/76979871,https://vimeo.com/album/…/video/7697987176979871
What sizes do I get?
The standard renditions — 1920, 1280, 640, 320 and 240 pixels wide — plus the video's own native size as its own row when it isn't one of those.
The heights come from the video's actual aspect ratio rather than an assumed 16:9, so a vertical or 4:3 video is labelled with the size it really is, and nothing gets cropped to fit a shape it doesn't have. Any rendition wider than the source is flagged, because Vimeo has to upscale it — those look softer than the source and are rarely what you want.
Why can't it find my video?
Vimeo's public lookup only covers public videos. A private, password-protected, or unlisted (link-only, with a hash after the ID) video isn't served by it, and neither is a deleted one — all of those come back as "not found". If the video plays for you only because you're signed in, the tool can't reach it.
Is this the full-resolution image?
It's the highest resolution Vimeo publishes for that video's poster frame, which is capped at the source video's own dimensions. It isn't a frame extracted from the video file itself, so if you need a specific moment, take a screenshot from the player instead.
Does my link go through your server?
No. The lookup runs entirely in your browser, talking straight to Vimeo, and the download pulls the image directly from Vimeo's image host. We never see the link you paste, and nothing is stored.
Can I use the thumbnail I download?
The image is copyrighted by whoever uploaded the video. Downloading it for reference, a mockup, or your own video is one thing; republishing it is another. Check you have the right to reuse it.
What about YouTube?
Use the YouTube Thumbnail Downloader, which does the same job for watch, Shorts and youtu.be links.
