How to use it

Length picks which side of the changeling you're naming. Short names (Fen, Sel, Ryn) read as private truenames — single soft syllables a changeling rarely shares. Longer names (Marisel Vane, Corin Ashford) read as the full, plausible aliases they wear in public.

Complexity decides how invented the names feel. Simple gives you names that pass as ordinary in any town; elaborate leans into the faintly otherworldly, ambiguous quality that marks a changeling's true self.

Does this work for Dungeons & Dragons?

Yes — changelings are a playable D&D race (introduced in Eberron and reprinted since), and these names follow their established convention: mutable, ambiguous, and split between a private truename and public personas. What's the difference between a truename and an alias?
