Guias
Strip the color out of a photo and fine-tune the result — the Grayscale Image tool converts your picture to black and white, then gives you separate controls for brightness, contrast and gamma so the tonal result looks exactly the way you want it, from a flat documentary look to a punchy high-contrast print.
How it works
Upload an image, then adjust three sliders:
- Brightness — lightens or darkens the grayscale image.
- Contrast — pulls shadows and highlights further apart (positive values) or flattens them toward mid-gray (negative values).
- Gamma — reshapes the midtones: values above 1.0 brighten the middle of the tonal range without blowing out highlights or crushing shadows, values below 1.0 darken it.
The result renders instantly as you adjust the sliders. You can download the result as an SVG file, or copy its source markup directly.
Tips
- Start with brightness and contrast at 0 and adjust gamma first — it's often the single control that makes a grayscale photo look "right."
- A gamma above 1.0 paired with a touch of positive contrast is a good starting point for portraits, opening up midtones without losing highlight detail.
- The downloaded SVG stays crisp at any size since it's a vector wrapper around your original image — resizing it doesn't lose quality the way a rasterized export would.
