Bookmark PDF adds a clickable bookmark outline — the table-of-contents panel most PDF readers show in their sidebar — to any PDF, right in your browser. Instead of clicking through a page-by-page selector, paste your whole list of titles and page numbers at once and download the result. No signup, and nothing ever leaves your device.
How to use it
- Upload a PDF.
- In the bookmarks box, list one bookmark per line as
Title, page number— for example:Introduction, 1 Chapter 1, 2 Section 1.1, 3 Section 1.2, 5 Chapter 2, 8 - Indent a line (2 spaces or a Tab) to nest it under the bookmark directly above — that turns "Section 1.1" into a child of "Chapter 1" in the outline tree.
- Download the bookmarked PDF. Opening it in Adobe Acrobat, Preview, or Chrome's built-in viewer shows the new outline in the sidebar; clicking an entry jumps straight to that page.
Why bookmark a PDF?
A long PDF — a report, an ebook, a contract — is much easier to navigate with a real outline than by scrolling or guessing page numbers. Bookmarks also make a document look and feel more polished for whoever receives it.
Does this keep bookmarks the PDF already has?
No — running the tool replaces the PDF's existing outline (if it has one) with the list you paste. If you want to keep some existing entries, retype them into the list alongside your new ones.
Can I nest bookmarks more than one level deep?
Yes. Indent further (4 spaces/2 tabs, 6 spaces/3 tabs, …) to go deeper — each line nests one level under the closest line above it with a smaller indent.
Will this work on a password-protected PDF?
A PDF with an owner lock but no open password usually works fine. A file that requires a password just to open must be unlocked first — use the Unlock PDF tool, then bookmark the result.
