The Date Countdown Calculator tells you exactly how much time stands between now (or any start moment you choose) and a target date and time. It breaks the span down into days, hours, minutes and seconds, adds running totals, and can even count only working days — perfect for planning launches, deadlines, holidays, birthdays, weddings or any milestone you're waiting on.
Unlike a simple "days between two dates" tool, this calculator understands direction: if your target is in the future it counts down ("time until"), and if it has already passed it counts up ("time since"). Give it a name and the result reads like a headline for your event.
How to use it
- Event Name (optional) — label your countdown, e.g. "New Year's Eve" or "Product Launch". It appears at the top of the result.
- Target Date & Time — the moment you're counting to, in
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mmform (for example2025-12-31T23:59). This is the only required field. - From Date & Time (optional) — leave it blank to count from the current time, or set it to measure the exact span between two fixed moments.
- Count working days only — tick this to add a Monday–Friday working-day total, ignoring weekends. Handy for project deadlines and business SLAs.
The countdown table updates as you type. Use the copy or download buttons to export the breakdown as a CSV.
What the results mean
The output lists the event, whether it's upcoming or in the past, the headline "time until/since" figure, the fully formatted target and start moments, each unit (days, hours, minutes, seconds), and the totals in hours and minutes. Turning on working-days mode appends a business-day count.
FAQ
How is the time calculated?
The tool measures the difference between the two moments and splits it into whole days, hours, minutes and seconds, using the literal calendar values you enter. Totals (total hours, total minutes) are the same span expressed in a single unit.
What counts as a working day?
Every day from Monday to Friday counts as one working day; Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. The count includes the earlier day of the span and stops before the later one, matching how most people tally business days to a deadline.
Can it count time since a past date?
Yes. If your target date is earlier than the start moment, the tool automatically switches to "time since" and reports how long ago it was.
Does it handle time zones?
The calculator treats the values you type as plain wall-clock times and compares them directly, so a span like "14 days, 8 hours" is the same everywhere. When you leave the "From" field blank, it reads your device's current local time as the starting point.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your event names and dates are never uploaded, logged or shared — every calculation happens locally on your device.
