Time Between Dates Calculator

The Time Between Dates Calculator measures the exact span between two moments in time — not just the calendar dates, but the clock times too. Enter a start date and time and an end date and time, and it returns the duration as a human-readable breakdown (years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds) alongside the same span expressed as raw totals: total days, weeks, hours, minutes and seconds.

It is built for precise, time-of-day questions: how long a project ran from kickoff to launch, the exact age of an event down to the hour, how much time is left until a deadline, or the elapsed time between two log timestamps.

How to use it

1. Pick the Start Date and enter the Start Time on a 24-hour clock (for example 09:00 or 14:30). Leave the time at 00:00 for midnight.
2. Pick the End Date and enter the End Time the same way.
3. The result updates automatically. If you enter the end before the start, the tool shows the absolute difference and notes that the two were swapped.

What the results mean

The Duration row is a calendar-aware breakdown. Because months have different lengths (and February gains a day in leap years), one "month" is not a fixed number of days — the calculator borrows the correct number of days from the month preceding the end date, so the breakdown lines up with how people actually read a calendar.

The Total rows express the very same span in a single unit each:

• Total Days — whole days plus the leftover hours and minutes.
• Total Weeks — whole weeks plus leftover days.
• Total Hours, Total Minutes, Total Seconds — the entire duration converted to that one unit.

How is this different from the Date Difference Calculator?

The Date Difference Calculator compares two calendar dates and specialises in counting weekdays, weekends and business days, with public-holiday presets. This tool instead works to time-of-day precision — it takes clock times, breaks the result down to the second, and reports second/minute/hour totals. Reach for this one when the hours and minutes matter; reach for the other when you need working-day counts.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. All arithmetic is calendar-aware, so a range that crosses February 29 (or any month boundary) counts the real number of days in each month.

Are time zones or daylight saving time involved?

No. Both times are treated as wall-clock values on the same neutral timeline, so daylight-saving shifts never add or drop an hour. If you need the two moments interpreted in specific zones, convert them first.
