Guides

The Date Difference Calculator tells you exactly how much time separates two calendar dates. Enter a start date and an end date and you instantly get the gap in several forms at once: the total number of days, the same span as weeks plus leftover days, as months plus days, and as a full years, months and days breakdown. It also counts how many of those days are weekend days and how many are working (business) days, with optional public-holiday presets for the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — the dates you type are never uploaded anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Pick a Start Date and an End Date. If you enter them in reverse order the tool still works and simply reports the absolute difference (it notes that the end date came first).
  2. Choose which days count as your Weekend. The default is Saturday & Sunday, but you can switch to a Friday–Saturday weekend, a three-day weekend, or a single weekend day for regions and schedules that differ.
  3. Optionally select a Holidays preset (US, UK or Australia). Public holidays that land on a weekday are then excluded from the business-day total and listed individually so you can see exactly which dates were skipped.

The result table updates automatically as you change any field, and you can copy it or download it as a CSV.

How the counts work

Days between two dates are counted from the day after the start date up to and including the end date — so January 1 to January 2 is one day. Business days are the total days minus weekend days minus any weekday holidays inside the range. The years/months/days breakdown advances whole months first (clamping to the shorter month, so January 31 plus one month lands on the last day of February), then adds the remaining days.

What counts as a business day?

A business day is any day that is not part of your selected weekend and is not a public holiday from the preset you chose. A holiday that falls on a weekend has no effect, because that day was already excluded.

Why is the day count one less than I expected?

The tool measures the span between the two dates rather than counting both endpoints as full days. If you want to include the start date itself (for example, when counting how many days an event lasts), add one to the total.

Which holidays are included?

The presets cover common US federal holidays, UK bank holidays and Australian national public holidays for 2025 through 2027. Regional and state-specific holidays are not included, and dates outside that window fall back to weekend-only business-day counting.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. All arithmetic uses the real calendar, so leap days (like February 29, 2024) are counted correctly and month math clamps to each month's true length.
