Guides

Face Shape Detector analyzes a photo of your face and estimates your face shape — oval, round, square, heart, diamond, or oblong — from the proportions between your forehead, cheekbones, jawline, and face length. Detection runs entirely on-device with a small machine-learning model; your photo is never uploaded anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Drop or browse for a clear, front-facing photo — good lighting and a face looking straight at the camera give the most reliable read.
  2. Press Detect face shape.
  3. Review your result: the closest-matching shape, a short description of it, and the four measurements the match was based on.

How it works

The tool locates 478 points across your face (a "face mesh") using an on-device model, then measures four distances: face length (forehead to chin), cheekbone width, jaw width, and forehead width. It compares the ratios between those four numbers against six reference profiles — one per shape — and returns whichever is the closest match.

This is a proportions-based estimate, not a clinical or stylist-grade classification — many real faces sit between two shapes, and lighting, hair covering the forehead or jaw, or an angled photo can all shift the measurements. Treat the result as a useful starting point (for picking a hairstyle or glasses frame, say), not a precise verdict.

Why do I need a front-facing photo?

The measurements are straight-line distances between landmark points on your face. A tilted head, a turned face, or a profile shot skews those distances in ways that don't reflect your actual proportions — a face turned even slightly makes the far cheek measure narrower than it really is. Face the camera directly, with your whole face visible, for the most accurate match.

Does it need an internet connection?

Only briefly, to load the small on-device detection model the first time you use the tool. After that, detection and measurement both run locally — nothing about the photo leaves your browser.

What if it can't find a face?

Try a clearer, better-lit photo with your whole face visible and roughly centered. Sunglasses, hats, or hair covering the forehead or jawline can also throw off detection or the measurements themselves.
