Baby name books give you thousands of names and no way in. This generator goes the other way round: tell it what you're looking for — a sound, a heritage, a grandparent to honour — and it comes back with a short list, each name explained.

Every result carries its meaning or origin, because that's usually the thing that decides it. A name that sounds lovely and means "sorrow" tends not to make the final list.

How to use it

Set the complexity and length first. Simple and short leans towards names like Ada, Rhys or Noor. Elaborate and long gives you Anastasia, Bartholomew, Evangelina.

Then use extra context — it matters more here than anywhere else. Try:

• "Irish names that work in English-speaking countries"
• "honours a grandmother named Rivka, but modern"
• "goes with the surname Okafor, one syllable"
• "gender-neutral, nature-inspired"

Does it suggest boy names, girl names, or both?

Both, unless you say otherwise. The generator doesn't ask you to pick a gender up front, because plenty of people are looking for a name for a baby whose gender they don't know, or don't want the name to announce. If you do want a steer, put it in the context box: "girl names", "boy names", or "unisex only".

Are these real names, or invented ones?

Mostly real. The model draws on actual naming traditions, and the meaning it reports for a common name is generally accurate. It can occasionally invent a plausible-sounding name or attach a folk etymology to a real one, so if a name's meaning is what sells you on it, check it against a dedicated etymology source before you fill in the birth certificate.

Why do I get different names each time?

Deliberately. The generator runs with high randomness, so pressing Generate twice gives you two different shortlists to react to. If a name you liked scrolled past, copy the list before running it again — results aren't saved.

Is my context private?

The text you type in the context box is sent to the AI provider as part of the prompt, so treat it the way you'd treat anything typed into a chatbot. It's fine to mention that you want an Armenian name; consider leaving out your surname, your address, or your baby's due date.
