Guides
A good couple name is the two of you in one word. Brangelina did it; so did every ship name that ever trended. This generator takes both partners' names and blends them into something that actually sounds like a name — catchy enough for a caption, an anniversary post or a shared social handle — and tells you which pieces of each name it fused.
It's built for real couples naming their duo and for fans shipping two characters. Either way the trick is the same: keep the sounds both people can hear themselves in.
How to use it
Put both names in the extra-context box — that's the raw material, so this control is doing the real work here rather than being optional flavour:
- "Jordan and Alex"
- "Priya + Marcus, been together ten years"
- "Sam and Riley, want something that sounds like a band name"
- "shipping Elena and Damon from the show"
Length decides how much of each name survives. Short blends (Jorlex) are punchy and handle-friendly; longer ones keep more of both names recognisable, which matters if you want each partner to spot their piece.
Complexity nudges how playful the fusion gets. Simple gives you a clean mash of the two names; elaborate is more willing to bend spelling and add a syllable to make the blend flow.
Why do some blends drop most of one name?
Two names rarely split evenly — the sounds that fuse cleanly win, and sometimes that means one name contributes only a syllable. If a result leans too hard on one partner, generate again or add "keep both names obvious" to the context box and it'll rebalance.
Can I use this for a fan ship name?
Yes — that's half of what it's for. Put both character names in the context box and, if it helps, the fandom, and you'll get blends in the same spirit as the ones fans coin by hand. As always, do a quick search before adopting one, since popular pairings often already have an established ship name.
Does the order of the names matter?
A little. The generator tries blends in both directions, but leading with one name gently biases the front of the portmanteau toward it. If you have a preference for which name comes first, list that one first.
