Guides

Hash text or a file with RIPEMD-128, RIPEMD-256 and RIPEMD-320 and get all three digests at once. Everything runs in your browser — your text and files are never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste text, or choose a file (the file is used only when the text box is empty and is hashed as raw bytes).
  2. Tick the algorithms you want and choose lowercase, uppercase, or colon-separated hex.
  3. Optionally paste an expected hash — the tool says which algorithm it matches, ignoring case, colons, dashes and spaces.

The RIPEMD family

RIPEMD-160 is the best-known member (used in Bitcoin's HASH160 — see the RIPEMD-160 generator). RIPEMD-128 is its 128-bit predecessor-style variant, now considered too short for collision resistance. RIPEMD-256 and RIPEMD-320 are not stronger hashes: they double the output width of RIPEMD-128 and RIPEMD-160 respectively, with the same security level as the originals. Use SHA-256 or SHA-3 for new designs; use these when matching an existing system.

Why does my hash differ?

Check for a trailing newline, and note text is hashed as UTF-8. Test vector: abc → RIPEMD-128 c14a12199c66e4ba84636b0f69144c77.
