SHAKE256 Hash Generator
Generate a SHAKE256 hash (FIPS 202 extendable-output function) of any text with a custom output length, in hexadecimal or base64, and optionally verify it against an expected hash.
Input
SHAKE256 can produce any length; 1–1024 bytes. 64 bytes = 512 bits.
Hex comparison is case-insensitive; base64 is case-sensitive.
Output
Only shown when an expected hash is provided.

Generate a SHAKE256 hash of any text, right in your browser, with the output length you choose. Pick hexadecimal or base64 and optionally paste an expected hash to verify it. Nothing you type leaves your device.
What is SHAKE256?
SHAKE256 is an extendable-output function (XOF) from the SHA-3 family, standardized in FIPS 202. Unlike SHA3-256 or SHA3-512, which always return a fixed number of bits, SHAKE256 lets you request as many output bytes as you need. A longer output does not change the beginning: the first 32 bytes of a 64-byte SHAKE256 digest are exactly the 32-byte digest.
It offers up to 256-bit security and is used for key derivation, deterministic random streams and post-quantum signature schemes such as ML-DSA and SLH-DSA.
How to use
- Enter your message.
- Set the output length in bytes (64 bytes = 512 bits is the usual reference length).
- Choose hex (lower/upper) or base64.
- Copy the result, or paste an expected hash to check for a match.
Is SHAKE256 the same as SHA3-256?
No. They share the Keccak core but use different domain-separation bits and output rules, so the digests differ. Use the SHA-3 Hash Generator for fixed-size SHA-3.
