What AAC to FLAC does
AAC is the lossy codec behind most iTunes, YouTube and streaming audio. FLAC is a lossless container that many music libraries, DAWs and audio players prefer for editing and archiving. Upload an AAC file and download a FLAC copy of the decoded audio. The conversion happens in your browser — your file is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Upload an AAC file (.aac, .m4a).
- Optionally mix down to mono.
- Click Convert to FLAC, preview the result, then download it.
Good to know
FLAC stores the decoded audio exactly, but it can't restore detail the AAC encoder already discarded — the FLAC will sound identical to the AAC and be larger. Use it when a workflow requires FLAC, not to improve quality. Output is 16-bit at the source's sample rate. The file is decoded by your browser's built-in decoder, so if your browser can play it, it can convert it. DRM-protected files can't be decoded.
Privacy
Decoding and FLAC encoding both run on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
