Turn a photo into a chunky, blocky mosaic — the Pixelate Image tool replaces small squares of the picture with a single flat color, giving it that classic retro, "censored," or 8-bit look. One slider controls how coarse the effect is, from a subtle softening to a fully abstracted block pattern.
How it works
Upload an image, then drag the Block Size slider (2 to 40 pixels, default 8):
- Small block sizes (2-6px) give a light, textured pixelation — enough to obscure fine detail while keeping the image recognizable.
- Large block sizes (20-40px) reduce the photo to a handful of big, flat-colored squares — the classic "retro game" or "redacted" look.
The preview updates as you drag, and you can download the pixelated result as a PNG.
Tips
- A block size around 6-10px is a good starting point for a stylized-but-still-recognizable look.
- Push the block size toward the maximum (30-40px) for a strong "obscured" or abstract-art effect.
- Because the effect is resolution-dependent, the same block size looks chunkier on a small image than on a large one — for a consistent look across photos of different sizes, downscale them to a similar resolution first.
