Remove PDF Metadata
See what metadata a PDF carries — title, author, creator, dates, embedded XMP data — then strip some or all of it before downloading. Runs entirely in your browser; your file is never uploaded.
Input
Reading and scrubbing runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Cleaned PDF
Upload a PDF to see what metadata it carries, then press Remove metadata. The cleaned file is built in your browser — download it when you're ready.
Guides
Remove PDF Metadata shows you exactly what metadata a PDF file carries — title, author, subject, keywords, creator/producer software, creation and modification dates, and any embedded XMP data packet — then lets you strip some or all of it, right in your browser. No signup, and your file never leaves your device.
How to use it
- Upload a PDF file. Its current metadata is read and listed automatically.
- Each detected field has a toggle, on by default, meaning it will be removed. Turn off any field you'd rather keep.
- Press Remove metadata. The cleaned file downloads automatically.
Why does this matter?
PDF metadata often reveals more than people intend — the software and version used to create a file, the real name behind a "username," or a creation date that contradicts a claimed one. Stripping it before sharing a document keeps that incidental information from leaking out with it.
What's the difference between this and other "remove PDF metadata" tools?
Most upload your file to a server and wipe every field blindly with no way to see what was there or keep any of it. This tool reads the file locally, shows you what it actually contains first, and defaults to removing everything — but you can choose to keep specific fields (like a filed Title you actually want) instead of losing them along with the rest.
Does this remove hidden XMP metadata too?
Yes. Many PDFs — especially ones exported from Word, Photoshop, or Acrobat — carry a second, richer metadata packet (XMP) alongside the classic document-info fields. If one is present, it's detected and offered for removal too, since it can duplicate or even outlast info removed from the older fields alone.
Will this affect the PDF's content or pages?
No — only the document's metadata is touched. Every page, image and piece of text in the file is left exactly as it was.
Your file is processed entirely on your device and is never uploaded.
