Guides
Blur everything behind a photo's subject while keeping them in sharp focus — the "portrait mode" look, applied after the fact to any photo, not just ones taken with a phone that supports it natively.
How to use it
- Upload your photo (JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF or BMP).
- Run the cutout — this uses one credit and detects the subject automatically.
- Drag the Blur strength slider until the background looks right.
- Download the result once it looks right.
How it works
The subject detection runs on our servers (the same model Background Remover uses), which is what costs the one credit. Once that comes back as a cutout, the blur strength is applied entirely in your own browser — a canvas blur filter over your original photo, with the sharp subject drawn back on top — so you can adjust it as many times as you like without paying for another cutout.
Does it work on any photo?
It works best with a single, clearly separated subject — a person, product, or animal against a background that contrasts with them. Busy scenes with several overlapping subjects, or a subject that blends closely into the background, can get a rougher edge where the blur meets the subject.
What if I want the background gone entirely, not just blurred?
Use Background Remover instead — it gives you a transparent-PNG cutout with no background at all.
What if I want a different background, not just a blurred version of my own?
Try Background Changer — it swaps in a solid color or another image instead of blurring what's already there.
