How to use it
- Drop an image into the uploader.
- Choose Exact pixels and type a width or height, or switch to Percentage and drag the scale slider.
- Leave Preserve aspect ratio on (the default) so the other dimension follows automatically.
- Press Resize, then download the result.
Presets
The preset list scales an image to fit inside a target box rather than forcing it to those exact numbers. A 3:2 photo fitted to 512 x 512 comes out 512 x 341, not a squashed square. Presets cover the sizes that come up most: Full HD, HD, a social square, and the common thumbnail and icon sizes.
To hit an exact size regardless of shape, turn off the aspect lock and type both numbers — or crop first with the Crop Image tool and then resize the cropped result.
Format and quality
Keep original format re-encodes as whatever you uploaded, where that's possible. PNG, JPEG and WebP are also available explicitly:
- PNG is lossless and keeps transparency — best for logos, icons and screenshots.
- JPEG is smaller for photographs but has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.
- WebP is usually the smallest of the three at the same visible quality, and every current browser supports it.
For JPEG and WebP a Quality slider appears. 80–90 is normally indistinguishable from the original; going below about 60 starts to show visible blocking on detailed images.
Why does my GIF lose its animation?
Resizing works by drawing the image onto a canvas, and a canvas holds a single frame. An animated GIF is therefore resized down to its first frame and saved as a still image. The tool warns you when the source is a GIF.
Does enlarging an image add detail?
No. Scaling above 100% interpolates between the pixels that are already there — it makes the image bigger, not sharper. Enlarging is useful for hitting a required minimum size, not for recovering detail that was never captured.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The decode, the resample and the re-encode all happen in your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so there's no upload wait, no file size limit beyond your device's memory, and nothing stored anywhere afterwards.
What if I just want a smaller file, not smaller dimensions?
Use the Image Compressor, which re-encodes at the same dimensions to cut the file size. To change the file type instead — HEIC to JPG, PNG to WebP and so on — use the Image Converter.
