Turn a photo into a raised, carved-metal look — the Emboss Effect tool traces the edges in your image and shades them as if lit from one direction, with controls for the light angle and how strong the relief looks.
How it works
Upload an image, then adjust two sliders:
- Emboss Angle — the direction the "light" appears to come from, in degrees (0–360). The tool buckets this into four directions — top-left, top, top-right, and right — each with its own emboss kernel, so small nudges within a direction look similar and the look changes distinctly as you cross a boundary.
- Emboss Amount — how pronounced the embossed edges are, from a barely-there relief to a strong, deeply carved look.
The result renders instantly as you adjust the sliders. You can download the result as an SVG file, or copy its source markup directly.
Tips
- Try all four angle "directions" (roughly 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°) on the same photo — the light direction can make very different details pop, especially on portraits and textured surfaces.
- Keep amount around 40–60% for a classic embossed look; pushing it toward 100% emphasizes fine texture and noise as much as the main edges.
- Emboss works best on images with clear edges and contrast — busy, low-contrast photos can end up looking mostly flat gray.
- The downloaded SVG stays crisp at any size since it's a vector wrapper around your original image — resizing it doesn't lose quality the way a rasterized export would.
