A demon's name should feel wrong to say out loud — too many consonants, a hiss where you expect a vowel, a syllable that sounds like it's already cursing you. Zaghraxul isn't a name you shout at a pet. This generator builds demon names from mythic and occult vocabulary, tuned for dread and power, and pairs each with a line describing the entity's nature or domain so you know what you've summoned.
It suits the campaign's big bad, the fiend in your horror novel, the boss in a game, and any ritual scene that needs a True Name nobody should speak.
How to use it
Length tracks rank in the infernal hierarchy. Short, harsh names (Vex, Gorr, Nyth) read as lesser imps and swarming fiends. Long, titled names (Malgrathex the Devourer, Belzaraoth) read as archdemons and named princes of hell — the ones with cults and epithets.
Complexity decides how unnatural the phonetics feel. Simple stays pronounceable and vaguely familiar; elaborate piles on clusters and apostrophes until the name reads as something no human throat was built for.
Use extra context to fix the demon's domain and flavour:
- "demon of plague and rot, ancient and patient"
- "seductive demon, name should sound smooth not harsh"
- "fire demon lord with a grand title"
- "based on Goetic / Ars Goetia naming traditions"
Will these work as D&D fiends?
Yes — the dread-and-domain convention here fits how D&D handles demons and devils, so a name generated for "demon of plague, ancient" reads correctly as an abyssal threat. Ask for a title in the context box if you want a named demon lord rather than a nameless horde member.
Are these real demons from mythology?
No — they're invented. The generator draws on the sound and style of demonological traditions (Goetic sigil-names, biblical fallen angels, folk devils) to make names feel authentic, but it isn't reproducing entities from any real occult text. If you want a name in a specific tradition's style, name that tradition in the context box.
Can I use a generated demon name in my own work?
Generally yes — short invented names aren't protected by copyright, so a demon named here is yours to use in fiction or a game.
